A Little Local Fame for a Very Fluffy Face

Kiwi the Cockerpoo has had many adventures — from mysterious festivals to unexpected birthday surprises - but this time, he’s stepped into something a little different…

The world of professional dog modelling - and we don't mean how he ended up in Kiwi and the Birthday Surprise!

Kiwi recently took part in the North East Dog Portrait Competition, run by Village Photography, and now has three official portraits featured in their 2026 gallery.

We think even Henry Hansom would be impressed with these pictures, just as he was in Kiwi's Artful Adventure

What Is the Dog Portrait Competition?

The competition is run by Village Photography in Hebburn and welcomes dogs of all shapes, sizes, and personalities — from energetic pups to dignified old souls.

Even better, it’s all for a good cause. Each entry includes a donation that goes directly towards supporting guide dogs, helping raise funds for puppies in training.

So yes — Kiwi can now officially say he’s done charity work and he's a model, but not for the first time if you know his adventure in Kiwi and the Little Old Lady Mystery

Kiwi’s Big Day in the Studio

A professional photoshoot might sound glamorous… but in Kiwi’s case, it mostly involved:

  • Trying to investigate the camera

  • Sitting nicely for approximately 2.7 seconds

  • Wandering about the studio

  • Wondering if the lighting equipment dispensed sausages. It was just as well there were no big green buttons to be pressed, or who knows what could have happened, if Kiwi and the Birthday Surprise is anything to go by!

Despite all that, Judith managed to capture something far more important than a perfectly posed picture — his personality.

That slightly curious expression? That hint of mischief? That “I may or may not have stolen a sandwich earlier” look? or "I may have hidden that sandwich somewhere unexpected!" Just ask the Junior Giants about unexpected sandwiches Kiwi and the Cricket Match

Why This Matters (Beyond Kiwi’s Ego)

Having Kiwi featured on a third-party gallery like this is actually quite special because Kiwi isn’t just a black dog in a children's story, he’s very much our real dog, with real adventures… and now, a small modelling portfolio.

From Photo to Story

If you look closely at the gallery images, you might recognise the same expressions that appear in the stories:

  • The thoughtful look before chaos begins

  • The innocent face after chaos has already happened

  • And the “this will definitely end well” moment (it usually doesn’t… at first).

Those little moments are exactly what inspire the Kiwi the Cockerpoo story series — gentle, slightly chaotic adventures with warm, reassuring endings.

Final Thought

Not every dog gets their moment in the spotlight…

But then again, not every dog would try to check behind the camera for snacks mid-photoshoot.

Somehow, that’s exactly what makes Kiwi… Kiwi.
