Kiwi the Cockerpoo is delighted to be team mascot for Gabriel’s school cricket match, proudly wearing his white cricket jumper and jaunty cap while preparing for what promises to be a very important afternoon.
 
Unfortunately, the visiting team arrives looking far too confident, far too unfriendly, and one particularly rude player makes it very clear he has entirely the wrong opinion about small black cockerpoos. Kiwi immediately becomes suspicious.
 
As the match begins, however, Kiwi quickly reaches the sensible conclusion that cricket is a deeply confusing sport. Humans appear to spend a great deal of time throwing perfectly good balls around only to hit them away instead of bringing them back properly. Far more importantly, Mum has prepared an excellent supply of sandwiches and cream cakes. After deciding to save some of the leftovers for later, Kiwi sets about finding the safest possible hiding place until he needs them again.
 
As always, Kiwi is not trying to cause problems. He is simply making perfectly sensible decisions based on the information available at the time. Before long, one very rude cricket team, one badly timed flying cricket ball, and one unexpectedly athletic cockerpoo somehow leave Kiwi responsible for winning the match in ways nobody quite anticipated.
